Baseball America has reported that 40 of 160 minor league teams would be eliminated in a plan under discussion. The move primarily would affect half-season rookie teams not based at spring training sites of major league teams. Clubs such as the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Carolina Mudcats and Durham Bulls would continue operations. … Ben Broussard, who has worked as a fundraiser at Colorado and LSU, has been named new director of the Wolfpack Club at N.C. State, replacing Bobby Purcell, who is retiring. … East Carolina received a basketball commitment from Noah Farrakhan on Tuesday. The three-star combo guard from The Patrick School in Hillside, N.J. had offers that included Florida, Maryland and Ohio State. … Former New England tight end Rob Gronkowski, who retired in March of 2019, has been traded to Tampa Bay, the new home of former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
