Connor Hill of West Johnston hit a grand slam and a solo home run as the Wildcats took a 10-0 varsity baseball win in five innings at Harnett Central on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.
The nonconference contest was scoreless until West scored six runs in the third with the help of a bases-loaded blast by Hill.
Hill homered again in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.
Xzavier Monk started on the mound for the Wildcats and threw 69 pitches for the win before left-hander Dylan Johnson came in to deliver the last 10 pitches in the closer role.
The same teams play Friday at West at 7 p.m.
