Triton opened varsity boys soccer season on Monday with a 2-0 loss to visiting West Johnston.
“First half, we were OK, but it looked like it was our first game,” said Triton coach Brian Foster. “They had one good goal and one goal off of a mistake. We had a header flash over on a great little inner play, almost finished off by Carson Smith. And then we owned them in the second half. Breakaway from Benny (Villalvazo). Should have put it away.
“Changes the complexion of the game, because then it would be 2-1 with 30-something minutes to go. So, we didn’t score when we should. Game ball goes to Taft Stevens. He was absolutely dominant on defense. He was everywhere. As a left outside fullback, to be everywhere is impressive. He handled business back there. We were rusty, but we got better as the game went on. I see it and I hope they see it, too. I’m expecting good things.”
Goalkeeper Christian Delcid had three saves for the Hawks (0-1).
Triton was originally scheduled to play Overhills on Thursday, but the game was canceled because of open house at Overhills. Triton has a pair of rivalry games on the road next week, going to South Johnston on Tuesday and Midway on Thursday.
