West Johnston took a 14-0 first-quarter lead on touchdown receptions of 12 and 24 yards by Martin Parrish as the Wildcats topped visiting Harnett Central, 21-15, on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.

After a Central score was nullified for an illegal shift, the Trojans pulled within 14-8 in the second quarter on a 16-yard scoring pass by De’Andre McAllister and a conversion run by the HC quarterback.

The hosts pushed the lead to 21-8 on the first series of the second half on a 54-yard scoring pass to Antuan Snead.

Central’s second TD came on a 5-yard reverse to Jaden Bryant with four minutes to go. Liam Peebles kicked the extra point.

The Trojans recovered a West Johnston fumble but lost possession on downs before the Wildcats ran out the clock.
