Western evens series with HC

Western Harnett scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and defeated Harnett Central 14-5 in a Tri-County Six 3-A Conference varsity baseball game on Friday night.

Collin Welch went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs as the Eagles improved to 9-11 overall and 4-2 in the league. Caleb Scott had two hits and two RBIs. Kaleb Denkins and Dustin Lund each had a hit and two RBIs for Western. Andrew Kelly went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Bradley Wilson had two hits.

Kelly pitched five and one-third innings with 10 strikeouts. Welch struck out five in one and two-thirds innings.

Central had hosted and edged the Eagles 4-3 on Tuesday. The Trojans, who visit Pine Forest for a nonconference game on Monday, are 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the league.
