Western takes two wins in 10-U district softball

After edging host Erwin in an extra-inning marathon, Western Harnett used the momentum to top Angier and advance to the championship series on day one of the Tar Heel Leagues District IV 10-under softball tournament at Al Woodall Municipal Park in Erwin on Monday evening.

Western won 7-6 in seven innings over Erwin in the first game when Madison Wear scored on a walk-off base hit from Grace Bancroft.”

Wear had two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored to lead Western.

Bancroft and Kaylee Powell each had two hits and one run scored. Aubrey Black had two hits. Breonna Pace had a double and a run scored. Jessika Constant had one hit and one run scored. Paige Robertson and Morgan McAuley had one hit apiece. Micah Wolvington scored once.

Maddie Haire and Kayleigh Merritt each had had two hits and one run scored to lead Erwin.

Kyndall Faircloth and Bryleigh Smith each had one hit and one run scored. Anslee Putnam had one hit. Bailey Johnson and Addison Tart scored one run apiece.

After finishing the first game late, Western ended the second game early, taking a 15-4 win in four innings over Angier.

Madison Wear had two hits and two runs scored to lead Western.

Jessika Constant had one hit and three runs scored. Aubrey Black had a double and two runs scored. Kaylee Powell, Grace Bancroft, Lena Brazie and Morgan McAuley each had one hit and one run scored. Paige Robertson, Addison Kirk, Micah Wolvington and Breonna Pace scored one run apiece.

For Angier, Molly Champion had one hit and one run scored. Grace Arnold had one hit. Bryana Denny, Laila Daniel and Haley Denton scored one run apiece.

Erwin and Angier meet in an elimination game today (June 10) at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to face Western Harnett immediately afterward. Western needs just one win to claim the championship, but a loss would force a decisive game Wednesday.
