Western Harnett wrestler Fred Lewis has signed to wrestle at Ohio Valley University, a Christian institution in Vienna, West Virginia.
Lewis was runner-up at 120 pounds in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A tournament. He compiled a 44-4 record as a senior.
“He’s a good student and a good kid,” said Western wrestling coach John O’Keefe. “He knows what he wants to do and he goes for it.”
Lewis has an older brother, Joe, who is a driller in Pennsylvania. Lewis’ dad, Dean Lewis, who assisted with the Eagles wrestling team this year, said his brother’s job influenced Fred to study Petroleum Engineering in college.
Lewis joins a number of area athletes who will be taking their skills to the next level.
Taylor Rosser of Western Harnett has signed to play volleyball at Central Carolina Community College.
