PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — Opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics were held with dignitaries from host South Korea and neighboring North Korea making peaceful gestures.

Vice President Mike Pence was on hand to represent the United States.

Over 2,900 athletes from 92 countries are competing.
